HAMED'S SECRET
Synopsis
Two centuries apart, one question: a man in the present searches for the truth behind the shrines of Sultan Hamed, while the countryside of 1798 rises against Napoleon's army.
Written and directed by Khaled Youssef and adapted from the story by Youssef Idris, Hamed’s Secret is a thirty-episode drama series that moves between two Egypts. In one, the countryside of 1798 meets Napoleon’s campaign with a popular resistance that the official histories have largely left out. In the other, a present-day man named Hamed sets out to understand the shrines of Sultan Hamed that stand scattered across the country, and what exactly is buried in them.
The production drew more than sixty actors across several generations, and Youssef has described it as the most demanding shoot of his career. It first aired over Ramadan, between 22 March and 20 April 2023.
Executive director, Hossam Suleiman.
