Synopsis

Two men who never meet — one rich and Muslim, one poor and Christian — are pulled through the same reversal of fortune, until each ends up living the other's life.

Khaled Youssef’s return to directing after a seven-year absence. Written by Youssef with Mohamed Refaie, Karma runs two lives in parallel: Adham, a wealthy Muslim businessman entangled in corruption, and Watany, a poor Christian man who dreams of a fortune he will never inherit. The two never share a scene, yet the film keeps folding one life into the other until the distance between them collapses.

The film engages directly with subjects Egyptian cinema rarely addresses head-on — sectarian division, marriage across faiths, and the machinery of corruption. Days before release its screening certificate was withdrawn by the Central Administration for the Control of Audiovisual Works, then reinstated, and Karma opened in the Eid al-Fitr season on 16 June 2018.

Produced by Ahmed Afifi. Cinematography by Raouf Abdel Aziz, music by Yahia El Mougy, editing by Ghada Ezz El Din. Distributed by Misr International Films.
